A beginner’s guide to meditation

“ I don’t know how to meditate.” “ Every time I try to meditate, I get distracted or fall asleep.” Does this sound familiar? We’ve all been there. Just like anything else, meditation takes practice. You don’t just wake up one day, decide to meditate, and can automatically sit in complete stillness and silence for an hour straight. Sorry, Bae… It takes more practice than that. Lol.

Instead of being hard on yourself for not being able to meditate like your fav IG yogi, start with exactly where you are. Were you able to experience stillness for 10 seconds? 30 seconds? 1 min? PERFECT!!! You meditated!!! Any amount of time that you are able to clear your mind is valuable and you receive benefits. Keep it up, and before you know it, you’ll be able to sit with a clear mind for times longer than imaginable.

Meditation also isn’t just simply sitting in stillness. Journaling, dancing, singing are all forms of meditation. You also don’t have to sit when you meditate or be in complete silence. What brings you peace, ease, and allows you to center yourself, regain control, and align? THAT’S your meditation.
